Thank you for showing him that new life is possible.
Keith’s struggle with substances began during a turbulent childhood marked by trauma. “I experienced the death of close friends at a young age,” he says, “and I struggled with self doubt. That pushed me to try drugs… to distract myself from my pain.”
Life became a downward spiral. His drug use worsened in adulthood, leading to homelessness, self-destructive habits, and – at his lowest point – jail. “That was a turning point for me,” he says. “When I was released, I decided that I didn’t want that life anymore.”
Through the encouragement of friends, he found the courage to seek help at the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia. “I had been alone for so long, I felt like I didn’t care anymore. But my friends came alongside me and held me accountable.”
“I’ve learned to give it all to God and rely on Him.”
Arriving at the Mission, Keith felt seen and accepted. “It was warm and open,” he remembers. “I knew I was being shown grace and mercy.” He had found a safe haven and the firm foundation in Christ he needed to start over.
In our Men’s Life Recovery Program, Keith began to overcome self-doubt and understand his own deeper struggles. “The drugs and alcohol were my way of self-medicating, but the Mission is helping me get to the root of the problem.”
He’s also found comfort and a renewed sense of purpose in his work therapy program while here. “I do land maintenance and help keep the place looking good. It’s very good for me – it requires discipline.”
Keith has graduated from the Mission and has reconnected with his family. He is employed full-time and is doing very well.
Thank you for sharing God’s love with Keith this Easter. His life has been renewed through the joy and hope of the Gospel! “I am healed and rejuvenated… the Mission has helped me see myself as someone of value, and I don’t feel like I have to hide behind a mask to be worthy of love.”
